New Art

May 22, 2009 by jiv

PrintI’ve been seeing a lot of Scriptures about peace lately and I’m trying to let them sink in. I’m kind of a peaceful person, but I don’t outwardly care about peace that much. I try to stir things up sometimes because of boredom, and can do damage to my friendships and business relationships. This piece was based on a scripture from James about sowing peace and reaping a harvest of God’s blessings. As I transition into working at home over the next few weeks, I’m going to try to let God be peaceful through me.

I’m really into this group Copeland. My recommendation is glowing with words like transcendent, poetic, deep. Great for introspection!

Visions of Beauty

January 8, 2009 by jiv

This book blew me away last week. Before me was laid a banquet of visuals served in novel form, and transcending mere words. I have visions of beauty that I don’t think I’ll be able to shake. It’s also one of the most easy reads I’ve ever had. I would love to know if you read it or have read it!

I’ve been having great fun creating and sharing color palettes on this site. Go to adobe.kuler.com. Just set up an account, and you too can begin creating and sharing color palettes. While you’re there, make sure and vote for my colors. My account name is “johnl”.

Must See Video

I cringed every time they erased! Starting over is a profound thing though. It seems Godly to be unaffected by the waste of it all. I want to be totally there! Don’t you?

Eyvind Earle

I recently saw a collection of Eyvind Earle’s work, and was blown away. You may recognize his work from Disney’s Sleeping Beauty. My kids and I tried drawing trees like him, and playing with the interaction of light and shadow. It’s great fun!

Loving Simplicity

The posters at The Small Stakes are blowing my mind today. I need to pull out about half the stuff I throw into a design and concentrate on the beauty of simple and unique shapes.

Inspiration Abounds

August 6, 2008 by jiv

I just can’t seem to get enough of the design food on the net these days. I’m absorbing inspiration at an ungodly rate. Can you imagine the creative explosion going on around the world because of the internet?

My method of absorption is to deconstruct designs to understand how someone could have thought of something so far from anything that would ever *pop* into my mind. As I do this, I think I’m getting it. I’m dependent on it.

This pattern is my attempt to mimic someone’s method. A little Asian, a little Scandinavian, a lot of vector. That’s me…a mimic. But isn’t that what we’re all doing?
